Circulation Guidelines
Connie Voss
Circulation Supervisor
(330) 287-1294
voss.2@osu.edu

A current ID from Ohio State or other OhioLINK affiliated university is required to check out all materials.

Circulating books deal mostly with ATI’s technologies and can be checked out for three weeks and renewed for an additional three weeks unless otherwise noted.

Reference books cover a wide range of topics and are for use only in the library.

The reserve section contains many one-of-a-kind items that are placed in the library by instructors to be used in the library. These materials may only be checked out overnight or weekends with written permission of the instructor or librarian.

Interlibrary Loan - Students may request material from any OSU library through the online catalog. Also available is OhioLINK, a statewide system, which allows users to borrow material from more than 140 college and/or university libraries in the State of Ohio. This service is free to all Ohio State students, faculty, and staff. It takes 3-5 days to obtain most items. The library can also obtain magazine articles through online databases or the interlibrary loan system.

Fines (Books) - Items not returned after 30 days will be presumed lost, and the patron will be charged the replacement cost of $140 for books ($90 replacement fee, $40 processing charge, and $10 non-refundable billing fee.) This notice will be sent via e-mail from the Columbus campus. No paper copy will be generated.

Recalled items that are not returned by the date shown on the notice will cost $10 per day to a maximum of $100. This notice will also be sent via e-mail. No paper copy will be generated.

Fines (Magazines or Trade Journals) - After a magazine is overdue for more than a week, a first overdue notice will be sent to the patron’s campus address. If, one week later, the magazine has not been returned, a second overdue notice will be sent to the patron’s campus address. Finally, one week later if the item has still not been returned, a billing letter will be sent to the patron’s home address. The billing letter will include charges equal to $75, which includes an $8.00 fee for each lost periodical (magazine). These billings are generated at the ATI campus and are paper notices.

Note: Unpaid university fines/fees can result in a student being placed on a University Hold. Patrons failing to pay fines can have their university privileges revoked or suspended. Such students may be unable to obtain their grades, transcpripts, or register for classes.

Library users will need to check their e-mail or view their OSU library circulation records online to know the status of their checkouts and hold requests. Notices cannot be sent to any e-mail address other than an activated OSU e-mail account. Accounts can be activated by going to the OSU Office of Information Technology web site and clicking on “Activate OSU Internet Username.”

If you want your library notices forwarded to your preferred Internet Service Provider or another campus system after you have activated your OSU e-mail account, you may request your mail to be forwarded. If your e-mail is already being forwarded from your username#@osu.edu account to another account, your library notices will be forwarded as well.

Periodicals (magazines and journals)

The library has more than 400 periodicals available in print for class projects and personal use. The most recent magazine issues can only be used in the library. Older issues may be checked out for up to one week, and there is a limit of four magazines per person. Some magazines are kept only in microfiche form. There is a microfiche reader/printer available. Mnay other magazines are available in full-text format on the library computers and can be printed out as well. A photocopier is also provided for anyone needing to copy periodical materials. All students using the copier are expected to abide by federal copyright laws.
