Sports/Commercial Turf Equipment Certificate

(9-month program)

Commercial Turf EquipmentIt takes a lot of equipment—and a lot of skilled people, too—to keep golf courses, parks, and playing fields looking their best. As the turf industry in the U.S. continues to expand (nearly 400 new golf courses were opened last year alone), people with the know-how to maintain and repair the sophisticated commercial mowers, reel equipment, and other types of horticultural and outdoor power equipment are in great demand. If you like working with machinery and have a mechanical aptitude, you’ve got what it takes to build a successful career in commercial turf equipment.

Sharpen your skills
This new program is one of very few in the country and is attracting the attention of leaders in the green and equipment industries, where the demand for qualified employees continues to expand. Earn a Certificate of Competency through a nine-month, 47-credit program of study. You’ll be geared up to take advantage of a growing career area where you can combine what you’ve learned about the turfgrass industry with technical know-how related to engines, hydraulics, and electronics.

Mow down the competition
As a graduate with a Certificate of Competency in Commercial Turf Equipment, you can work with equipment dealers, wholesalers, manufacturers, lawn care companies, landscape firms, nurseries, golf courses, parks, and professional athletic facilities. You might work as an equipment service technician with an equipment dealership or golf course; as an equipment manager at a golf course, country club, or park; or as a sales representative with a manufacturer, wholesaler, or dealer.

You might choose to continue your coursework and earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Power and Equipment. Students majoring in Turfgrass Management or Landscape Contracting and Construction can add this certificate to their Associate of Applied Science degree. It’s one more tool you can use to edge ahead of others in the industry.

ATI’s fully-equipped engineering technologies laboratories include a dedicated laboratory for electricity/electronics as well as for fluid power. The engineering laboratory includes a diesel fuel injection test room as well as welding and metal fabricating facilities.
