Ohio Residency

You will be assessed a surcharge if you are classified as a nonresident. You may be considered an Ohio resident if:
  • you are dependent upon a parent or legal guardian who has been an Ohio resident for the previous 12 months.
  • you have been a resident of Ohio for the previous 12 months and have not received financial support from outside the state.
  • you are dependent upon a parent or legal guardian, or are the spouse of a person who has accepted full-time employment and established a home in Ohio for reasons other than gaining the benefit of favorable tuition rates.
You may qualify for conditional residency if you are self- supporting while in Ohio pursuing a part-time course of study; are stationed in Ohio while on active duty in the military or have been an Ohio resident while involved in active duty military service prior to enrollment; have worked as a migrant in Ohio; or have been requested to be out of the country by your employer. Some dependents of these persons may qualify as well. Part-time status may affect your eligibility for financial aid. Contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information.

Male citizens of the U.S. and male immigrant aliens 18 through 25 years old must be registered with the U.S. Selective Service System to be eligible for federal student loans and grants. Men can register at any post office, or register now on-line at http://www.sss.gov/regist.htm.
Direct residency questions to the University Registrar at (614) 292-8500.
